Beacon Counselling
Set up 27 years ago, Beacon exists to improve the lives of
adults, young people and children experiencing mental and emotional
distress. Trained counsellors help people deal with a wide range of
issues such as depression, bereavement and loss, relationships,
family issues, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Counselling is
provided from 7 highly accessible locations in Stockport for
adults; 10 secondary schools and 2 community locations for young
people aged 11 to 18; and 7 primary schools, making access to our
service easy for all.
Beacon's monitoring and evaluation of feedback from people who
have used the service tells us that most people benefit from the
counselling Beacon provides, whatever the issue. The most
common benefits are: increased confidence and self-esteem, improved
relationships with others, reduced impact of problems in their
lives, and feeling better able to cope with future challenges.
Beacon takes pride in the quality of its services and was
recognised for its long term contribution to the local area when
given a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2008.
